"When the people find they can vote themselves money, that will herald the end of the republic." - Benjamin Franklin;
"And when politicians find that honor and character matter less than buying votes and a constituency, that too will herald the end of the Constitution. When that happens we must work tirelessly to change their minds, or their occupation!" - Hoping The Blind Will See

How Threatened Does The Progressive Left Really Feel?

This should tell you all you need to know about the message Glenn Beck conveyed on Saturday. Beck's rally being non-political, instead focused on honor, truth and personal relationships with God and what we need to do as individuals to re-establish as much of America's greatness as we can. It focused on teaching those principles to our children and grandchildren so future generations can continue the journey towards that greatness.

Unfortunately, the AFL-CIO, along with the NAACP, SEIU, AFT and liberal/progressive theologians/clergy, saw the power that Beck's message held, and how well it resonated throughout the country. The union's power is directly gleaned from the people who perceive that they need to be "taken care of" in one form or another - mainly through entitlement programs. Almost by definition the unions stand against Beck's clear message of individual responsibility while standing with God to promote Liberty. The AFL-CIO has made it clear that they expect union families to attend their October event. Is that a threat to the rank and file that if they don't attend there may be repercussions? Is the AFL-CIO subtly resorting to the strong-arm tactics of the past?

The AFL-CIO is headed by Richard Trumka, a close buddy of the little "o". In fact, obama is going to be spending Labor Day with Trumka at an event in Milwaukee. Trumka has already visited the White House 30 times since obama took office. There's no telling how many times they may have met outside the White House. Trumka is one of the key unofficial "advisors" that obama holds in high regard. So obviously, through extension, the Beck message has obama worried as well.

Jim Wallis, a liberal evangelical leader who is CEO of Sojourners, will also attend the event. “As people of all faiths, backgrounds, beliefs, orientations and heritages, we must move this country forward beyond divisiveness and hate, to rebuild and reclaim our destiny,” Wallis said. Gee, really? That sounds an awful lot like the message we're sending? Have they come over to the light? Hmmm, somehow I don't think so; their interpretation of that statement is a bit different than ours - but it sure sounds good, doesn't it? And some people will be taken in by it.
