Throughout history, both biblical and civic, there have been stories of great civilizations imploding in upon themselves, or destroyed by the greed and moral decline of their leaders, or destroyed by some huge event that can not be easily explained. Along with the decline of those civilizations came war, famine, plague, misery and death in huge numbers. And in many cases it appears there was a resurgence of spirituality, an awakening and returning to God. So the question is begged, 'How much of God's intention drove those events?'
I believe we are in such a period now. I believe God has been surgically removed from popular American culture by forces and people that can only be described in this context as evil. Oh sure, plenty of people 'go to church' and there are millions of people who call themselves "Christian'. But a large number of those people are 'Christian' in name only, and 'worship' for appearances sake. We no longer teach about God in school, nor do we teach about the place He holds in the founding of our country. Many millions of people don't have a relationship with God - because they never saw their parents have a relationship with Him.
I believe, once again, that 'civilization' has hurt God. He gave his only son for our salvation, and yet constantly throughout history, humans have turned away from Him. In all those times He has reacted out of hurt?, or love, or both, and wrought great destruction on those peoples. Now it is our turn to be on the receiving end of His wrath.
So I suggest to all of you who read this, take the time to develop a relationship with God. Don't just say, "I believe in God" - that's not enough! Talk to Him. Ask Him for direction. Ask Him for advice. Tell Him your concerns and give them over to Him. And do it constantly! The future is probably going to be pretty bleak. How long it will take, and how subtle a decline it will be, is anyone's guess. But history shows us that at some point, there will be a catastrophic event - war, famine, plague, etc. Or maybe a climatic event - the great flood for example.
As much as I sense the destruction of America as I want her to be; and as much as I suspect that we are about to endure the destruction of a culture (in terms of an era), and as much as I fear what the future will bring, I believe in God. I know that what He has in store may not be pretty, but it is necessary. So, in any event, my advice to you is embrace God. There is only one side to be on in this conflict, and that's the side of God. I hope you will prepare!
