"When the people find they can vote themselves money, that will herald the end of the republic." - Benjamin Franklin;
"And when politicians find that honor and character matter less than buying votes and a constituency, that too will herald the end of the Constitution. When that happens we must work tirelessly to change their minds, or their occupation!" - Hoping The Blind Will See

Day After Day I'm Reminded Of Just How Niave I Am

Here's an interesting bit of information - Congressmen funnelling money to their choice of candidate as election campaign contributions! It's all legal, but is it right? Here's the story.

Brooksville, FL, July 19, 2010 – The Federal Election Commission has released the quarterly campaign finance report which shows that Jason Sager’s opponent raised more money than Jason. The Washington D.C. Ruling Class is pouring money into the “Friends of Rich Nugent” campaign coffers.

Michael Bates of Hernando Today reported that, of the $140,000+ our opponent has received in contributions, $47,875 from Political Action Committees but he did not trace these PACs back to the people behind them. While individuals are limited to contributing only $2,400 per election per candidate, members of Congress, through their “Leadership PACs”, can contribute up to $5,000.

The FEC report shows that well over $30,000 of Mr. Nugent’s PAC contributions are coming from the “Leadership PACs” and campaign committees of sitting members of Congress. While our opponent might not be an incumbent himself, he is the overwhelming choice of the incumbents in Washington now.

Jason Sager, who refuses to accept special interest campaign donations, said, “It appears that the Washington Elite think they know better than the good citizens of District 5 and are attempting to select our next Congressional representative for us. Before the first absentee ballot was mailed to the first voter in this district, our opponent has written political IOU’s to Congressional representatives from Michigan, Virginia, Alabama, California, Pennsylvania and Ohio, as well as to some current representatives from other districts in Florida.

Most of the “Leadership PACs” that support our opponent also supported Dede Scozzafava in New York, the progressive Republican who dropped out of the race last fall and endorsed the Democrat! Some also supported Trey Grayson who was defeated by Rand Paul in the Kentucky Senate race. It is our hope that the people of District 5 will speak loudly on August 24th and tell them the people’s seat in District 5 is not for sale!

Can this happen in your district???
