I've got to admit I'm perplexed. This is going to cost us a lot of money! The government, with it's decision to sue Arizona over the immigration bill they just passed, is showing us the union mentality decision making that's going on. But why? Here's what I mean. The government is responsible for ensuring our borders are protected, our security is ensured, and our immigratuion laws are enforced. Pretty clear cut.
But They Weren't doing any of it!
So along comes Arizona who essentially says "We'll help you out Federal government, no problem" (or problemo, depending upon who you talk to). We'll pass a state law that mirrors the Federal one, catch the illegal immigrants for you, send them to ICE for processing, and you just need to deport them.
Along comes Eric Holder and the DOJ. Oh, no they say, "we can't have you interfering with immigration, that's our job!"
"But you aren't doing your job, Eric," says Arizona.
Eric replies, "But we don't want you doing it either! It's our job, and whether we do it or not, it's still ours. You can't have it - even if you have the resources to do it and we don't." They just don't want to give up that power!
So let's review.
1. The government owns a responsibility (work) that they are not acting on.
2. Someone (Arizona) decides they can do it better because of necessity, and starts the process to perform the work.
3. The government files a lawsuit (a grievance?) to ensure the responsibility (work) stays with them.
4. If they win, they still wont act on their responsibility (complete the work), so everyone is still in the same boat - but money has been spent and someone is a little richer.
Yep - that's the union mentality all right - and our community organizers/pro-union administration is about to waste our money - yep, yours and mine, the taxpayer! You gotta love the union mentality. Uh, (forehead slap) - NO YOU DON'T!!!
