"When the people find they can vote themselves money, that will herald the end of the republic." - Benjamin Franklin;
"And when politicians find that honor and character matter less than buying votes and a constituency, that too will herald the end of the Constitution. When that happens we must work tirelessly to change their minds, or their occupation!" - Hoping The Blind Will See

Is It The Start Of An Epidemic?

We have witnessed President Obama make speech after speech after speech where he has apologized for some actual or perceived event that occurred in our past. The latest apology came when he addressed American Indians recently. Over the weekend, the British government  caught the disease. They apologized for sending children to Australia centuries ago. It's kind of embarrassing, because no one knows exactly who the British were apologizing to. I just want to know if this is the beginning of the Apology Epidemic, or even an Apology Pandemic so that if I find someone apologizing to me for something, I'll know whether it's sincere or just some symptom of his/her malady.

I'd also like to know when all the countries we've sent aid to over the past 100 years plan to apologize for accepting it. I'd like to know when France will apologize for accepting our military's help during WWII. I'd like to know when Japan will apologize for attacking Pearl Harbor, and then having the gall to accept our money and expertise to rebuild their country. Same with Germany! I want to know when all the countries that formerly made up the Soviet Union will apologize for allowing the US to fight the USSR during the "cold war" without help from hardly anyone. I'd like to know when Gorbachev will apologize for accepting President Reagan's demand to "tear down this wall"!  I'd like to know when South Korea and South Vietnam will apologize for accepting our help to keep them free from communist rule. I'd like to know when Kuwait will apologize for allowing us to into their country to free them from  Saddam Hussein's invasion? Should we apologize to the Iraqi people for freeing them from a dictatorial regime?

Come on! Let's get this pandemic cooking! All in favor of more apologies, raise your hands! Hmmm, come on folks. Hmmm, no hands? Well, maybe it's not an epidemic after all, maybe it;s just a moronidemic!

Wake Up America, Obama is not looking out for America, or for our future!

  1. With regards to the British apology .... I did initially feel rather confused as to why modern Britons should apologise for an action carried out before they were born or in which they played no part. There is little doubt, from the coverage I have seen, that the recipients felt happier for having finally received an apology. There is also the issue of many desperately wanting to track down siblings and cousins, to find family and their origins, and this will need resourcing. Many of these individuals rightly want compensation.

    I think it is also about acknowledging what has happened, learning from history so we do not repeat it. A simple apology made the headlines and many Britons learnt about a dreadful deed of which they had previously been unaware or had put to the back of their mind.

  2. Why do they believe they are "entitled" to compensation? It had nothing to do with ANYONE who is alive today? Where does the insanity end? How is it possible that Britons were unaware of their history? That doesn't bode well for the school system there. Not that we're one s to talk, our revisionist history is a pathetic representation of actual events in some cases as well. But, how far back do we go to make 'reparations" for the decisions that were made in our past, under circumstances and conditions of which we know little?

    It's easy to Monday-morning quarterback, and hindsight is 20-20, etc. But the reality is that men made decisions based on the knowledge they had. It's in the past, let it go...

    As far as I'm concerned, this is a ridiculous path to be walking, and ANY head of state that goes down that road is doing little but embarrassing themselves and their country.

  3. "Hoping...." - if you had seen how distressed these people are (still) to have been removed from their families, their roots, then like me you'd probably want them to get compensation, even if there is no entitlement. This is a part of history not widely publicised, not taught, probably because even at the time the people responsible knew they were in the wrong.

    I don't know how far back we can go to make amends, but while the victims are alive and still suffering there is a moral argument in favour of acknowledgement, at the very least.
