2012 - The End Of The World?

Both ancient Mayan and Chinese calendars predicted the end of a "time period" - calculated to be December 21 or 23, 2012. This has been interpreted by some as meaning the end of the world, as catastrophic events were foretold. The Bible talks about the "end times" as well. There is mention of "fire from the sky". Many Biblical scholars interpret that to be a literal reigning down of fire - perhaps asteroids, perhaps more than that. The bible talks about increased natural disasters as well. But let's put that into current day context for a minute. What if the interpretation was wrong - after all it came decades ago and was created from a world perspective far different from today's. Can these two lines of thought actually coincide? What if the "catastrophic events" aren't about a sun flare that will create a magnetic reversal on the earth - affectively changing the north and south magnetic poles - which many believe is imminent. What if the "end period" isn't the end of the world, but the end of the world as we know it? And what if the "catastrophic event" and the "fire from the sky" isn't a solar flare, but a nuclear war? That seems pretty plausible to me given the events occurring around the world. Both Iran and North Korea are just a very short time from acquiring nuclear technology and/or the delivery systems required to use nuclear weapons offensively. Both countries espouse hate. The Obama administration, for some obscure reason, has recently decided to dismantle the missile shield in Poland and Czechoslovakia, which effectively leaves Israel unprotected. As for natural disasters? We've already seen an increase in natural disasters - there have been 8-10 earthquakes in the past 2 months around the globe. The Swine Flu pandemic is about to hit us; there is global recession. In America alone wild fires are out of control and recently people have been swept into the sea by rogue waves.
