Report: US would make Internet wiretaps easier
WASHINGTON – Broad new regulations being drafted by the Obama administration would make it easier for law enforcement and national security officials to eavesdrop on Internet and e-mail communications like social networking Web sites and BlackBerries, The New York Times reported Monday.
The newspaper said the White House plans to submit a bill next year that would require all online services that enable communications to be technically equipped to comply with a wiretap order. That would include providers of encrypted e-mail, such as BlackBerry, networking sites like Facebook and direct communication services like Skype.
Federal law enforcement and national security officials say new the regulations are needed because terrorists and criminals are increasingly giving up their phones to communicate online.
"We're talking about lawfully authorized intercepts," said FBI lawyer Valerie E. Caproni. "We're not talking about expanding authority. We're talking about preserving our ability to execute our existing authority in order to protect the public safety and national security."
The White House plans to submit the proposed legislation to Congress next year.
The new regulations would raise new questions about protecting people's privacy while balancing national security concerns.
James Dempsey, the vice president of the Center for Democracy and Technology, an Internet policy group, said the new regulations would have "huge implications."
"They basically want to turn back the clock and make Internet services function the way that the telephone system used to function," he told the Times.
The Times said the Obama proposal would likely include several requires:
_Any service that provides encrypted messages must be capable of unscrambling them.
_Any foreign communications providers that do business in the U.S. would have to have an office in the United States that's capable of providing intercepts.
_Software developers of peer-to-peer communications services would be required to redesign their products to allow interception.
The Times said that some privacy and technology advocates say the regulations would create weaknesses in the technology that hackers could more easily exploit.

Many of these organizations have been linked directly, and indirectly, to the Muslim Brotherhood whose own uncovered documents have revealed their purpose for existence, i.e. the Islamization of America by destroying western institutions from within.

In summary, the bottom line is this: Our president is aiding and abetting our enemies to assimilate/infiltrate into American society and our government. Our president is providing assistance for gaining access to our tax dollars so that our enemies can better carry out their agenda. Couple this, with all the other links and questions about the loyalty of Barack Obama to the future of a free America — many of which have been enumerated by myself in past articles, and by countless other writers and analysts who see with their eyes wide open, trying desperately offer a wake-up call to everyone who cares about our children’s future. It is my fervent hope that the upcoming elections will upturn both houses of congress so that a new minority will be left to support the Democratic Obama agenda, and a new majority can initiate impeachment proceedings — before it is too late.
As an Independent, I usually stay away from Republican versus Democrat politics, because there is plenty wrong with both parties. This year, it is vital that as many Democrats are ousted from office as possible, for one reason: to help usurp the agenda of Barack Obama.

What Is WRONG With Senate Republicans?
In a phrase? There are just too many RINO's. The GOP hierarchy, and the entrenched Washington and throughout the party, including their ineffective chairman, has to go - period. There are no if's, and's, or but's about it. Vote them out in November as well! They are not interested in listening to us. And they can be, and probably will be, as destructive to the country as any Democrat that is elected in their place. It is interesting to finally see the true colors of the current Republican contingent in the Senate becoming visible- and it isn't Red, White and Blue! They are a sham. At least the Dems are clear on where they stand - no hiding there!Here's some info you might not have known from Jim DeMint.

You're not going to believe what happened this week. Just when I thought Republicans in Washington were beginning to get the message, they went back to business as usual.
As you know, Alaska Senator Lisa Murkowski lost the Republican primary to her conservative challenger, Joe Miller, in a fair fight. But instead of graciously conceding and endorsing the Republican nominee, Murkowski announced that she will continue her campaign as an independent write-in candidate.
Senate Republicans held a closed-door meeting Wednesday afternoon to elect someone to replace Senator Murkowski as the top Republican on the Energy and Natural Resources Committee. Or so we thought.
Rather than taking away Murkowski's leadership position on the committee, Senate Republicans decided to let her keep it. One senator after another stood up to argue in favor of protecting her place on the committee — a position she will no doubt use in her campaign against Joe Miller, the conservative Republican nominee.
It was bad enough to watch my colleagues work to support her in the primary after she had built a record of betraying conservatives principles. But watching them back her after she left the party and launched a campaign against the Republican nominee was more than I could bear.
I spoke out against the motion and I voted against it. But the good ol' boys' club, which always protects its own, prevailed. The motion was adopted by secret ballot and the final tally was not disclosed.
Keep in mind that I was attacked just last week by the Washington establishment for supporting Christine O'Donnell — a conservative — because they believe her nomination will hand the seat to a Democrat in Delaware. This week, however, that same establishment voted to help Lisa Murkowski — a moderate — defeat the Republican nominee, which could hand the seat to a Democrat in Alaska.
Marc Thiessen addressed this double standard in a column he wrote for the Washington Post on Tuesday, which you can read here. Here's an excerpt:
In that sense of entitlement, Murkowski is not alone. All last week, we heard the GOP establishment complain how the Tea Party is threatening Republican unity by pursuing "ideological purity" at the expense of a "big tent" party. But Tea Party-endorsed candidates are the ones who have stayed within the GOP tent. Rather than launching destructive third-party bids, fiscally conservative insurgents have contested GOP primaries — and when they have lost, they have endorsed their establishment opponents virtually without fail.
Contrast that with the record of the establishment candidates. When it became clear Charlie Crist would lose to Marco Rubio in Florida's Senate race, Crist bolted the GOP and decided to run as an independent. When Arlen Specter saw he would lose to Pat Toomey in Pennsylvania's Senate race, he became a Democrat. And, after losing the GOP nomination in Alaska, Murkowski is running as an independent write-in candidate. And yet, we are told that it is the Tea Party that is dividing the GOP and threatening party unity. For establishment candidates, unity seems to be a one-way street. The message to Tea Party activists across the country is: We want your votes but not your candidates.
The idea that DeMint and the Tea Party are threatening the GOP's chances for reclaiming the majority is absurd. Republicans wouldn't have a shot at taking back either the House or Senate were it not for the Tea Party movement, which has both energized the conservative base and attracted independents to the GOP by promising to reform the party and restore fiscal sanity in Washington. The best way to dispirit the conservative base and lose those independents would be to take back the majority and go back to business as usual.

The decision by Senate Republicans to hurt the conservative nominee in Alaska is certainly dispiriting, but it's also a healthy reminder that we must keep fighting to elect new Republicans who won't continue business as usual. If we're going to change Washington, we have to change the people we send to Washington. It's that simple.

"Pay No Attention To The Man Behind The Curtain!"
No one has been paying attention to them for decades, perhaps centuries. We better start paying attention, and finding out who they are, and what their ultimate purpose is, before those options are no longer available. Chances are the layers between them and us are so numerous that we may never know the truth. But I do know this for fact; if we don't start looking we definitely will never know. Nothing ventured, nothing gained.
Doing some research today I came across mention of this alleged forgery The Protocols of the Elders of Zion, which caught my interest. It alleges a "plot" for world dominance by Zionists. There are claims that this book, published early last century in Russia, influenced the thinking of Adolph Hitler - thus his strong desire, and success, to eliminate the Jews.
I wanted to see where the 'teachings" in this book were connected to modern Islamic Extremists. In my search I came across this site, Radio Islam. This Website is huge! And though it claims to be anti-racist, the little I read before I got to my posting below clearly indicated that it tries to discredit Israel as a nation, and the aspiration of Jewish "elders" as well.
What I found fascinating was this passage about the founder of Radio Islam. As you will see, what struck me was the fact that what he is saying, albeit with a vent towards "blaming" the Jewish State, dovetails into my post yesterday regarding the international bank cartels, the Bilderberg group, the Tri-lateral commission, and the Council on Foreign Relations.
I don't necessarily agree with everything written in the article posted below. And don't for a minute get me wrong; I don't condone radical Islam, and in fact believe Islam is not a friend to America. (Naively or not, I do believe Israel is a friend to America.) But I equally fear the unseen forces that run our government and choreograph world events. Those unnamed architects living behind the organizations (and perhaps others) that I list above. We are in a world of hurt, my friends. More and more I'm feeling like David in his epic battle against Goliath. I liked how that one came out, and maybe that's why the story is in the Bible. After succeding in fleeing miraculously to Sweden, King Hassan II ordered that lieutenant Ahmed Rami was to be traced and brought back to Marocco. Rami had participated in at least two military coups aiming at abolishing the monarchy and founding an Islamic republic. The Moroccan secret service has not been able to execute the royal order.
Today this sympathetic, youthful and incredibly energetic man is one of the most popular persons in Sweden, but at the same time one of the most hated ones. His political views are discussed the Swedish parliament, and also - they tell us - in government circles.
Rami has written and published four thick books. In these he gives convincing reasons for his opinion that in Sweden - as well as everywhere else in the West - the bases of national life are undermined. The Western countries are in reality ruled by conspiring mafiosos, who have nothing in common with true democracy but are trying to carry into effect their malevolent aims, the introduction of a totalitarian "New World Order". Rami, who today is a Swedish citizen, never tires of repeating this in the transmissions of Radio Islam.
Naturally views of this kind are causing a noticeable irritation in the Establishment. A few years ago Rami, an (Arab and consequently himself a Semite) was prosecuted for antisemitism (!) and sentenced to prison, where he had to stay for six months. Curiously enough he has turned out to be the only political prisoner in Sweden.
In spite of all this Ahmed Rami is not a broken man and has in no way lost his spirit. The prison sentence has probably only strengthened his conviction of being right. The transmissions of Radio Islam continue, and the courageous Moroccan has no intention of giving up his struggle. To him it is important that "people in all countries should have the right of being independent and not having to submit to the oligarchy which has usurped the power for themselves".
What then is the basis of his conviction? What gives him the strength to say aloud what most people not even dare to think? Has he understood against whom he has lifted his hand, whom he has challenged? When I met Ahmed Rami, I could of course not refrain from asking these questions.
"Since my early youth I have stuck to my Islamic conviction. I have always been striving for equality and justice. Doing some research today I came across mention of this alleged forgery The Protocols of the Elders of Zion, which caught my interest. It alleges a "plot" for world dominance by Zionists. There are claims that this book, published early last century in Russia, influenced the thinking of Adolph Hitler - thus his strong desire, and success, to eliminate the Jews.
I wanted to see where the 'teachings" in this book were connected to modern Islamic Extremists. In my search I came across this site, Radio Islam. This Website is huge! And though it claims to be anti-racist, the little I read before I got to my posting below clearly indicated that it tries to discredit Israel as a nation, and the aspiration of Jewish "elders" as well.
What I found fascinating was this passage about the founder of Radio Islam. As you will see, what struck me was the fact that what he is saying, albeit with a vent towards "blaming" the Jewish State, dovetails into my post yesterday regarding the international bank cartels, the Bilderberg group, the Tri-lateral commission, and the Council on Foreign Relations.
I don't necessarily agree with everything written in the article posted below. And don't for a minute get me wrong; I don't condone radical Islam, and in fact believe Islam is not a friend to America. (Naively or not, I do believe Israel is a friend to America.) But I equally fear the unseen forces that run our government and choreograph world events. Those unnamed architects living behind the organizations (and perhaps others) that I list above. We are in a world of hurt, my friends. More and more I'm feeling like David in his epic battle against Goliath. I liked how that one came out, and maybe that's why the story is in the Bible. After succeding in fleeing miraculously to Sweden, King Hassan II ordered that lieutenant Ahmed Rami was to be traced and brought back to Marocco. Rami had participated in at least two military coups aiming at abolishing the monarchy and founding an Islamic republic. The Moroccan secret service has not been able to execute the royal order.
Today this sympathetic, youthful and incredibly energetic man is one of the most popular persons in Sweden, but at the same time one of the most hated ones. His political views are discussed the Swedish parliament, and also - they tell us - in government circles.
Rami has written and published four thick books. In these he gives convincing reasons for his opinion that in Sweden - as well as everywhere else in the West - the bases of national life are undermined. The Western countries are in reality ruled by conspiring mafiosos, who have nothing in common with true democracy but are trying to carry into effect their malevolent aims, the introduction of a totalitarian "New World Order". Rami, who today is a Swedish citizen, never tires of repeating this in the transmissions of Radio Islam.
Naturally views of this kind are causing a noticeable irritation in the Establishment. A few years ago Rami, an (Arab and consequently himself a Semite) was prosecuted for antisemitism (!) and sentenced to prison, where he had to stay for six months. Curiously enough he has turned out to be the only political prisoner in Sweden.
In spite of all this Ahmed Rami is not a broken man and has in no way lost his spirit. The prison sentence has probably only strengthened his conviction of being right. The transmissions of Radio Islam continue, and the courageous Moroccan has no intention of giving up his struggle. To him it is important that "people in all countries should have the right of being independent and not having to submit to the oligarchy which has usurped the power for themselves".
What then is the basis of his conviction? What gives him the strength to say aloud what most people not even dare to think? Has he understood against whom he has lifted his hand, whom he has challenged? When I met Ahmed Rami, I could of course not refrain from asking these questions.

Me? I just can't imagine that we get out of this at all. I guess it's up to each of us to decide just how important to us our sovereignty, and our liberty, really is. Don't stand down! We're gathered here because the young generation, including among them our sons and daughters and grandchildren, is experiencing a profound multi-sided crisis that demands urgent action.
We're here because the Communist Party recognizes how essential youth are to the outcome of present and future struggles; for mobilizing to defeat the extreme right in the 2010 elections and confronting the economic crisis, deepening the reform process, for winning a socialist future.
We're here because the Party has an essential role in helping the Young Communist League (YCL) to regain its footing and play an active and even leading role again among youth and students, in a period in which youth attitudes are changing markedly and open to progressive and radical alternatives.
We're here because the YCL could not absolutely exist without the Party. And the future of the Party is in doubt without a growing YCL.
The YCL is going through a basic transition, with a new membership, including those joining on-line daily, and emerging new leaders. Without proper attention by the Party, nationally, in districts and clubs, it is no exaggeration to say the future of the YCL is at stake.
Our experience historically has been that with the proper attention and attitude, the YCL can rebound relatively quickly.
So, this conference comes at a great time. It's a moment to renew our understanding and approach to the young generation and the YCL, and recommit to helping the YCL in every way possible to tackle this difficult, challenging, exciting period and thrive.
It's a great time because there are so many signs today's youth are developing profound new progressive attitudes that will impact politics for decades to come. These attitudes are developing in response to and as a part of the great labor led people's upsurge against the ultra right, but also the new economic, social and political circumstances they are growing up in.
The changes are so progressive some have dubbed today's youth, the "we generation," embracing the "common good" and rejecting the tenants of right-wing ideology.
Let's paint a broad canvass of this generation.
The "we generation" is made up of youth born between 1978 and 2000, make up 95 million of the US population of 300 million, bigger than the 78 million baby boomers.
In 2008, they comprised 50 million eligible voters. By 2020, they will comprise 90 million voters representing almost 40% of the electorate.
Since 2006, the "we generation" or Millennial' as they are also called, have been increasing their voter turnout markedly. In 2008 they were 20% of the vote, and increased turnout more than any other sector.
And vote they did. In 2006, 18-29 year olds voted 60-38% Democratic. In 2008, they voted 68 to 30 for Barack Obama. The youth were a key part of the coalition that elected Obama and gave the Democrats majorities in Congress. Youth were inspired by the Obama campaign, coming out in droves to volunteer and staff the operation across the country and cast their ballots.
Their orientation is also why Organizing For America is making the mobilization of the youth vote a top priority of its work this year.
Surveys show youth have widespread support for government action on jobs, more education funding, urgent action on the environment, changing US foreign policy, universal health care and regulation of the banks. They embrace social transformation on a grand scale.
Over 76% of youth think there should be a viable 3rd political party and an alternative to the two major parties. Thirty nine percent think of themselves as Independents, 36% Democrats and only 24% Republican.
The deep going economic crisis has shaken their confidence in capitalism. We are familiar by now with the Rasmussen and Gallup polls, which show that 45% and 50% respectively of today's youth think socialism, however they conceive of it, is a better system than capitalism.
Youth are not just progressive oriented, but are more civic minded and politically engaged than previous generations. We saw all this on display in the US Social Forum in Detroit.
Each generation comes of age under a unique set of global, economic and political circumstances that shapes its outlook, mood and attitude. Distinct experiences are impacting them - they are growing up in a time of unparalleled economic hardship and environmental catastrophe.
This bleak outlook certainly gives rise to pessimism and cynicism among a section of youth. And yet Obama's election has given many youth a sense of optimism despite the dismal economic and social prospects.
In painting the picture of this generation we see the gray hues of suffering and pain.
This is the first generation fully experiencing the decline of the US as a world power, and has grown up in an era of general economic decline in the living standards of their families and communities. They see the need for a new role for the US in the world.
This generation is experiencing the greatest gap in wealth of any generation in history.
The economic situation facing youth is dire, especially among African American and Latino and other oppressed youth. Forty-one% of children now live in low-income families. The special impact of racism has pushed 61% of African Americans, 62% of Latinos, 31% of Asians Americans and 57% of American Indian into low-income families.
The US poverty rate is the highest among developed nations. That includes 19% of children, including 35% of African American children.
Not only are substantial numbers of youth growing up in poverty, they are arriving at working age in an economic depression. Many face the prospect of a lifetime of joblessness, poverty and misery.
According to EPI, "Since the start of the recession in December 2007, young adults have attained the highest unemployment rate on record (since 1948). The unemployment rate for 16-24-year-old workers peaked in September 2009 at 19.2%- passing the peak rate of 19.0% from November 1982-and started 2010 at 18.9%."
Twenty million 16-24 year olds are unemployed. African American unemployment is at 32.5%, followed by Latinos (24.2%), and then whites (15.2%).
In 2009 72% of all teens were unemployed in Illinois and only 83% in Chicago. A staggering 88% of African American teens were unemployed statewide and 85% in Chicago
Through the juvenile courts and criminal justice system, the US incarcerates more of its youth than any other country in the world.
There are some 5 million young people aged 16-24 who are out of work and out of school. They find themselves alienated from society that is undergoing a scientific and technological revolution that constantly requires higher levels of education and training.
There are 18.2 million students attending universities. Large numbers graduate from college into unemployment. They can't find jobs in their chosen professions, must work part time and live at home.
In addition, students are accumulating sizeable debt loads from their education, which makes many "indentured servants" for life to the banks. In 2008 67% of students graduating from four-year colleges had student loan debts. The average debt is approximately $23,000.
This generation has had to endure the horror of widespread gun violence. Homicide is the 2nd leading cause of death among youth 10-24 years old. In Chicago over 30 public school students have died from gun violence each of the past 3 years. 15 youth are killed each day in US, 80% with firearms.
Youth, especially youth of color, are victims of police abuse. The killing of Oscar Grant and the stop, question, frisk tactics of the NYPD of 52,000 African American and Latino youth in 4 years, "criminalizing the entire generation".
This generation has grown up in an era of a new qualitative degradation in our environment, the alarm over global climate change, the outright criminality of corporations like BP. They feel the urgency to act now.
The picture of this generation also has a full rainbow tapestry. This generation is the most racially and nationally diverse young generation in US history. In 2006, youth of color comprised almost 40% of the young generation. This year for the first time, the number of births of babies of color was a majority. By 2050, 50% of Americans will be of people of color. This is already giving youth a sense of diversity, lending to widespread anti-racist attitudes, multiracial unity and broader acceptance and appreciation of diversity and having an impact on the struggle against racism.
Gay and lesbian sexual orientation are accepted without prejudice widely.
Because of the Internet and immigration, this generation has a more "global perspective."
The revolution in mass communications is having a profound impact on youth, shaping their social practice and interaction. Facebook and Myspace have become major outlets for political engagement. Two-thirds said they had a Facebook account, and 36% used Facebook to promote political candidates, ideas or events. Forty-five percent said they had read a political blog; 30 percent had forwarded a political video, etc.
Youth are cynical about government and corporate leaders, think they are often self-serving, and think government should do more.
This painting has some bold new strokes too.
This generation is growing up under a progressive labor movement that is actively reaching out to the youth. There are some 4.8 million workers in the leisure, hospitality and food service industries. And 3.9 million in retail trades. This motivated the AFL-CIO to organize the Young Workers Summit to organize young workers and change the image of trade unions among the youth.
The young generation is also experiencing a progressive labor movement and its leadership in many struggles. The labor movement is embracing the youth and seeks to specially organize them, including someone in their top leadership reaching out to them. They have set up a special program just for this purpose.
USWA President Leo Girard recently called upon youth to lead a new civil rights revolution on the jobs struggle. Girard said, "Sisters and brothers of the next generation, it's time for a revolution. It's time to stand up and be heard. It's time to mobilize online and in the streets. Together, let's tweet, Facebook and text. Let's rally, vote and, where necessary, sit in. Let's lead the civil rights movement 2.0."
So what can the Party do and what can the Party and YCL do together?
Our starting point is the role of the CPUSA, and by inference the YCL. Our role is to help build the broad democratic movement for change and within that the organized might, influence and leadership of the working class, specifically organized labor. Our role is to identify the chief stages of struggle, the main obstacles to progress at each stage, today of course the struggle against the ultra right, and help to assembly the broad coalition of forces necessary to advance.
This is also done in unity with what we have identified as the other essential class and social or core forces - the racially and nationally oppressed communities and women.
Also among these essential core forces is the young generation. All of these core forces overlap and interpenetrate and influence each other.
A great challenge before the Party is to deepen its relationship to the youth on many fronts and levels. This includes on the most immediate political tasks, and to help deepen youth's relationship to the working class and other core forces
The role of the Party is also to simultaneously build popular support for the ideas of socialism, the socialist current, and among the young generation in the "battle of ideas." To chart the path forward that will result in "wresting by degrees" control by capital.
The Party does all this by working shoulder to shoulder with the YCL on all the main struggles of the day. The Party also takes its own independent initiatives to influence the youth.
For example, shouldn't we seek to involve youth in the 2010 election coalition? Help them set up OFA chapters on campuses, and be involved in targeted campaigns through their unions and other organizations?
Shouldn't we work to bring youth into the developing jobs coalitions that are springing up around the country?
Shouldn't we help organize broad support for youth oriented legislation, including for jobs, education funding, etc. ?
Shouldn't we work jointly together to increase the mass circulation of the People's World/Mundo Popular? Isn't our news source also great for the young generation? What can we do to make it even more attractive to youth?
The YCL should be the place leading young communists learn their trade and develop their world outlook: the organization and vehicle from which they can most effectively engage and influence their peers.
The YCL is especially needed because youth have a need for their own forms and "path" to a socialist outlook, forms and a language they and their peers understand.
The YCL, like the Party, is an indispensable and unique organization to the working class and people's movement. YCLers describe it as a "schoolhouse of struggle."
The way we conceive it, the YCL should and can play a vital role in uniting the youth and uniting the young generation with labor and the other core forces through its initiatives and action.
The YCL also plays an indispensable role in building the left and communist current among the youth, in developing the forms and activities where youth can be learn Marxism.
It's an organization where youth can fully embrace their incredible diversity, learn working class and revolutionary morals, treat each other as equals, strengthen their defenses against racism, male supremacy and anti-gay bias.
Another great challenge for the Party then is to help build the YCL into an organization and movement with a mass following among youth.
What kind of organization and movement is up to the YCL and will result from its day-to-day activities. It is determined by the material conditions and the needs of young people. It will not be and cannot be the same kind of organization that the older generations were schooled in, fell in love in, and got married in, including my generation. It must be specifically for, by and about this "we" generation, with its own stamp.
For example, how is the YCL being shaped by the Internet and mass communication revolution? How can the YCL and we utilize the Internet to reach and engage a far greater audience of youth, the 50% who believe socialism is the future?
The Party not only gives a political lead, but also provides a wealth of experience and Marxist education for developing the YCL membership and those around it. Districts and clubs give practical assistance and mentoring to establish and build YCL grassroots organizations and become engaged in coalition struggles.
The young generation has only known the Internet and the revolution in mass communications. It is as natural to them. The potential for reaching youth with our ideas is greater than ever before, and we can do it easily and inexpensively if we (and the YCL) master the use of the Internet.
The communist youth movement will the forms of communication it has grown up with and adopted naturally: social networking and particularly video, audio and digital forms; a streaming radio or video production must replace concept Dynamic; in fact with radio or video production all aspects of the YCL movement can proceed within a single enterprise: educational, organizational, political.
The Party would be remiss if we didn't do everything we could in this moment to reach out and engage the youth with our ideas. We would be equally remiss if we didn't take steps to build the YCL.
Can we assist the YCL in developing its mass communications platform?
Can we organize schools for youth in cities across the country, jointly organized by the National Party, Districts and the YCL?
Can we continue to organize a Party speaking tour on campuses across the country?
Together we can ensure this young generation takes its rightful place in history and helps advance the working class and people's movement on the road to socialism.

Remarks to the CPUSA Youth Conference
Chicago, IL
July 17-18, 2010
We're gathered here because the young generation, including among them our sons and daughters and grandchildren, is experiencing a profound multi-sided crisis that demands urgent action.
We're here because the Communist Party recognizes how essential youth are to the outcome of present and future struggles; for mobilizing to defeat the extreme right in the 2010 elections and confronting the economic crisis, deepening the reform process, for winning a socialist future.
We're here because the Party has an essential role in helping the Young Communist League (YCL) to regain its footing and play an active and even leading role again among youth and students, in a period in which youth attitudes are changing markedly and open to progressive and radical alternatives.
We're here because the YCL could not absolutely exist without the Party. And the future of the Party is in doubt without a growing YCL.
The YCL is going through a basic transition, with a new membership, including those joining on-line daily, and emerging new leaders. Without proper attention by the Party, nationally, in districts and clubs, it is no exaggeration to say the future of the YCL is at stake.
Our experience historically has been that with the proper attention and attitude, the YCL can rebound relatively quickly.
So, this conference comes at a great time. It's a moment to renew our understanding and approach to the young generation and the YCL, and recommit to helping the YCL in every way possible to tackle this difficult, challenging, exciting period and thrive.
It's a great time because there are so many signs today's youth are developing profound new progressive attitudes that will impact politics for decades to come. These attitudes are developing in response to and as a part of the great labor led people's upsurge against the ultra right, but also the new economic, social and political circumstances they are growing up in.
The changes are so progressive some have dubbed today's youth, the "we generation," embracing the "common good" and rejecting the tenants of right-wing ideology.
Let's paint a broad canvass of this generation.
The "we generation" is made up of youth born between 1978 and 2000, make up 95 million of the US population of 300 million, bigger than the 78 million baby boomers.
In 2008, they comprised 50 million eligible voters. By 2020, they will comprise 90 million voters representing almost 40% of the electorate.
Since 2006, the "we generation" or Millennial' as they are also called, have been increasing their voter turnout markedly. In 2008 they were 20% of the vote, and increased turnout more than any other sector.
And vote they did. In 2006, 18-29 year olds voted 60-38% Democratic. In 2008, they voted 68 to 30 for Barack Obama. The youth were a key part of the coalition that elected Obama and gave the Democrats majorities in Congress. Youth were inspired by the Obama campaign, coming out in droves to volunteer and staff the operation across the country and cast their ballots.
Their orientation is also why Organizing For America is making the mobilization of the youth vote a top priority of its work this year.
Surveys show youth have widespread support for government action on jobs, more education funding, urgent action on the environment, changing US foreign policy, universal health care and regulation of the banks. They embrace social transformation on a grand scale.
Over 76% of youth think there should be a viable 3rd political party and an alternative to the two major parties. Thirty nine percent think of themselves as Independents, 36% Democrats and only 24% Republican.
The deep going economic crisis has shaken their confidence in capitalism. We are familiar by now with the Rasmussen and Gallup polls, which show that 45% and 50% respectively of today's youth think socialism, however they conceive of it, is a better system than capitalism.
Youth are not just progressive oriented, but are more civic minded and politically engaged than previous generations. We saw all this on display in the US Social Forum in Detroit.
Each generation comes of age under a unique set of global, economic and political circumstances that shapes its outlook, mood and attitude. Distinct experiences are impacting them - they are growing up in a time of unparalleled economic hardship and environmental catastrophe.
This bleak outlook certainly gives rise to pessimism and cynicism among a section of youth. And yet Obama's election has given many youth a sense of optimism despite the dismal economic and social prospects.
In painting the picture of this generation we see the gray hues of suffering and pain.
This is the first generation fully experiencing the decline of the US as a world power, and has grown up in an era of general economic decline in the living standards of their families and communities. They see the need for a new role for the US in the world.
This generation is experiencing the greatest gap in wealth of any generation in history.
The economic situation facing youth is dire, especially among African American and Latino and other oppressed youth. Forty-one% of children now live in low-income families. The special impact of racism has pushed 61% of African Americans, 62% of Latinos, 31% of Asians Americans and 57% of American Indian into low-income families.
The US poverty rate is the highest among developed nations. That includes 19% of children, including 35% of African American children.
Not only are substantial numbers of youth growing up in poverty, they are arriving at working age in an economic depression. Many face the prospect of a lifetime of joblessness, poverty and misery.
According to EPI, "Since the start of the recession in December 2007, young adults have attained the highest unemployment rate on record (since 1948). The unemployment rate for 16-24-year-old workers peaked in September 2009 at 19.2%- passing the peak rate of 19.0% from November 1982-and started 2010 at 18.9%."
Twenty million 16-24 year olds are unemployed. African American unemployment is at 32.5%, followed by Latinos (24.2%), and then whites (15.2%).
In 2009 72% of all teens were unemployed in Illinois and only 83% in Chicago. A staggering 88% of African American teens were unemployed statewide and 85% in Chicago
Through the juvenile courts and criminal justice system, the US incarcerates more of its youth than any other country in the world.
There are some 5 million young people aged 16-24 who are out of work and out of school. They find themselves alienated from society that is undergoing a scientific and technological revolution that constantly requires higher levels of education and training.
There are 18.2 million students attending universities. Large numbers graduate from college into unemployment. They can't find jobs in their chosen professions, must work part time and live at home.
In addition, students are accumulating sizeable debt loads from their education, which makes many "indentured servants" for life to the banks. In 2008 67% of students graduating from four-year colleges had student loan debts. The average debt is approximately $23,000.
This generation has had to endure the horror of widespread gun violence. Homicide is the 2nd leading cause of death among youth 10-24 years old. In Chicago over 30 public school students have died from gun violence each of the past 3 years. 15 youth are killed each day in US, 80% with firearms.
Youth, especially youth of color, are victims of police abuse. The killing of Oscar Grant and the stop, question, frisk tactics of the NYPD of 52,000 African American and Latino youth in 4 years, "criminalizing the entire generation".
This generation has grown up in an era of a new qualitative degradation in our environment, the alarm over global climate change, the outright criminality of corporations like BP. They feel the urgency to act now.
The picture of this generation also has a full rainbow tapestry. This generation is the most racially and nationally diverse young generation in US history. In 2006, youth of color comprised almost 40% of the young generation. This year for the first time, the number of births of babies of color was a majority. By 2050, 50% of Americans will be of people of color. This is already giving youth a sense of diversity, lending to widespread anti-racist attitudes, multiracial unity and broader acceptance and appreciation of diversity and having an impact on the struggle against racism.
Gay and lesbian sexual orientation are accepted without prejudice widely.
Because of the Internet and immigration, this generation has a more "global perspective."
The revolution in mass communications is having a profound impact on youth, shaping their social practice and interaction. Facebook and Myspace have become major outlets for political engagement. Two-thirds said they had a Facebook account, and 36% used Facebook to promote political candidates, ideas or events. Forty-five percent said they had read a political blog; 30 percent had forwarded a political video, etc.
Youth are cynical about government and corporate leaders, think they are often self-serving, and think government should do more.
This painting has some bold new strokes too.
This generation is growing up under a progressive labor movement that is actively reaching out to the youth. There are some 4.8 million workers in the leisure, hospitality and food service industries. And 3.9 million in retail trades. This motivated the AFL-CIO to organize the Young Workers Summit to organize young workers and change the image of trade unions among the youth.
The young generation is also experiencing a progressive labor movement and its leadership in many struggles. The labor movement is embracing the youth and seeks to specially organize them, including someone in their top leadership reaching out to them. They have set up a special program just for this purpose.
USWA President Leo Girard recently called upon youth to lead a new civil rights revolution on the jobs struggle. Girard said, "Sisters and brothers of the next generation, it's time for a revolution. It's time to stand up and be heard. It's time to mobilize online and in the streets. Together, let's tweet, Facebook and text. Let's rally, vote and, where necessary, sit in. Let's lead the civil rights movement 2.0."
So what can the Party do and what can the Party and YCL do together?
Our starting point is the role of the CPUSA, and by inference the YCL. Our role is to help build the broad democratic movement for change and within that the organized might, influence and leadership of the working class, specifically organized labor. Our role is to identify the chief stages of struggle, the main obstacles to progress at each stage, today of course the struggle against the ultra right, and help to assembly the broad coalition of forces necessary to advance.
This is also done in unity with what we have identified as the other essential class and social or core forces - the racially and nationally oppressed communities and women.
Also among these essential core forces is the young generation. All of these core forces overlap and interpenetrate and influence each other.
A great challenge before the Party is to deepen its relationship to the youth on many fronts and levels. This includes on the most immediate political tasks, and to help deepen youth's relationship to the working class and other core forces
The role of the Party is also to simultaneously build popular support for the ideas of socialism, the socialist current, and among the young generation in the "battle of ideas." To chart the path forward that will result in "wresting by degrees" control by capital.
The Party does all this by working shoulder to shoulder with the YCL on all the main struggles of the day. The Party also takes its own independent initiatives to influence the youth.
For example, shouldn't we seek to involve youth in the 2010 election coalition? Help them set up OFA chapters on campuses, and be involved in targeted campaigns through their unions and other organizations?
Shouldn't we work to bring youth into the developing jobs coalitions that are springing up around the country?
Shouldn't we help organize broad support for youth oriented legislation, including for jobs, education funding, etc. ?
Shouldn't we work jointly together to increase the mass circulation of the People's World/Mundo Popular? Isn't our news source also great for the young generation? What can we do to make it even more attractive to youth?
The YCL should be the place leading young communists learn their trade and develop their world outlook: the organization and vehicle from which they can most effectively engage and influence their peers.
The YCL is especially needed because youth have a need for their own forms and "path" to a socialist outlook, forms and a language they and their peers understand.
The YCL, like the Party, is an indispensable and unique organization to the working class and people's movement. YCLers describe it as a "schoolhouse of struggle."
The way we conceive it, the YCL should and can play a vital role in uniting the youth and uniting the young generation with labor and the other core forces through its initiatives and action.
The YCL also plays an indispensable role in building the left and communist current among the youth, in developing the forms and activities where youth can be learn Marxism.
It's an organization where youth can fully embrace their incredible diversity, learn working class and revolutionary morals, treat each other as equals, strengthen their defenses against racism, male supremacy and anti-gay bias.
Another great challenge for the Party then is to help build the YCL into an organization and movement with a mass following among youth.
What kind of organization and movement is up to the YCL and will result from its day-to-day activities. It is determined by the material conditions and the needs of young people. It will not be and cannot be the same kind of organization that the older generations were schooled in, fell in love in, and got married in, including my generation. It must be specifically for, by and about this "we" generation, with its own stamp.
For example, how is the YCL being shaped by the Internet and mass communication revolution? How can the YCL and we utilize the Internet to reach and engage a far greater audience of youth, the 50% who believe socialism is the future?
The Party not only gives a political lead, but also provides a wealth of experience and Marxist education for developing the YCL membership and those around it. Districts and clubs give practical assistance and mentoring to establish and build YCL grassroots organizations and become engaged in coalition struggles.
The young generation has only known the Internet and the revolution in mass communications. It is as natural to them. The potential for reaching youth with our ideas is greater than ever before, and we can do it easily and inexpensively if we (and the YCL) master the use of the Internet.
The communist youth movement will the forms of communication it has grown up with and adopted naturally: social networking and particularly video, audio and digital forms; a streaming radio or video production must replace concept Dynamic; in fact with radio or video production all aspects of the YCL movement can proceed within a single enterprise: educational, organizational, political.
The Party would be remiss if we didn't do everything we could in this moment to reach out and engage the youth with our ideas. We would be equally remiss if we didn't take steps to build the YCL.
Can we assist the YCL in developing its mass communications platform?
Can we organize schools for youth in cities across the country, jointly organized by the National Party, Districts and the YCL?
Can we continue to organize a Party speaking tour on campuses across the country?
Together we can ensure this young generation takes its rightful place in history and helps advance the working class and people's movement on the road to socialism.

How Does A Government Lose Control Of It's Country?
One way is by not listening to, or heeding the voice of, it's citizenry. Control by the obama administration is increasingly slipping away. Every time a president makes a statement like "we can absorb another terrorist attack", or the DOJ sues a state for wanting to protect itself, and every time a president stands up and apologizes for his country, a little more respect, a little more support and a little more control is lost. As more and more people become aware of the fact that the media propaganda machine is not interested in presenting the truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth to it's audience, whether in print, on the radio, or on TV, the government loses a little more trust, and with it, control. Eventually what is articulated in the story below is what you get, and it is being exported to the United States. Yes, my friends, our government is losing control...
Juarez editorial ignites a beleaguered Mexico

MEXICO CITY – A newspaper's stunning, front-page editorial of seeming surrender to drug capos has set off a national debate from the presidential palace to Mexico's equivalent of the water cooler — its ubiquitous town squares.
"What do you want from us?" El Diario de Juarez asked the cartels whose war for control of the border city across from El Paso, Texas, has killed nearly 5,000 people — including two El Diario journalists — in less than two years. "You are currently the de facto authorities in this city ... Tell us what you expect from us as a newspaper?"
For many Mexicans, it was a voice that finally exposed in a very public and unusual way the intimidation felt across the country.
"We weren't speaking directly to (drug gangs). It was an open message," El Diario director Pedro Torres said in one of dozens of interviews since the editorial appeared Sunday. "We wanted to provoke a reaction that would call attention to what's happening in Juarez, and in the end, I think we met our objective."
The editorial dominated headlines and talk shows for two days, and Torres said he received calls from as far as Russia and Japan.
It also brought a volley of accusations of collusion and incompetence between government and media, whose adversarial relationship is still evolving a decade after the end of tight controls under Mexico's single-party rule.
And it exposed the dissonance between Mexicans who must deal with violence daily and those who live in quieter parts of the country for whom little has changed since President Felipe Calderon launched an offensive against the cartels in late 2006.
"There are many parts of the republic that don't want to understand that things have changed a lot for some people ... into a state where they've lost control," said Jose Carreno Carlon, a journalist and professor who headed media relations for former President Carlos Salinas de Gortari. "There are cases of journalists who are pressured by criminals — who have to consider that in their work, who have to address the de facto authorities every day."
The editorial could be a turning point for Mexicans, pushing them to recognize the corrupting forces on freedom of expression in a country considered the most dangerous in the Americas for journalists, according to the U.N. and the Organization of American states.
El Diario captured a feeling of helplessness that resonates nationwide, said newspaper editor Jose Martin Mayoral Lozano, who has limited coverage of organized crime since his car was torched in 2005 as a threat.
"This is something unusual," he said. "I see it as a call to the people, a call to awaken society to what's happening in our country."
With last week's killing of El Diario photographer Luis Carlos Santiago, 21, a total of 65 news workers have been slain since 2000, Mexico's National Commission on Human Rights has said.
They include Armando Rodriguez, El Diario crime reporter who was gunned down in 2008 as he was taking his daughters to school. The federal investigator in the case also was assassinated and there are no leads.
Calderon met with international press groups Wednesday, saying he would push legal reforms to protect journalists and create a security plan in the wake of a report from the Committee to Protect Journalists, which outlines widespread impunity for attacks on reporters in Mexico.
Under the plan, patterned after one in Colombia, the government would provide protections for journalists facing threats, including security or relocation to a safe haven, said Joel Simon, CPJ executive director. The plan could be rolled out as early as next month.
Calderon's government rankled press groups with its reaction to Santiago's killing. It condemned the attack, but accepted the Chihuahua state prosecutor's theory that the photographer was killed for personal reasons — not for his work.
"The authorities have to be very careful not to disqualify or say immediately that a killing didn't have to do with the journalist's work," said Gonzalo Marroquin, vice president of the Inter American Press Association, who met with Calderon. "It could be an easy exit to avoid the problem."
Mexican journalists blame the government as much as the cartels for the intimidation they face.
Jorge Luis Aguirre, 52, a journalist in Ciudad Juarez who was granted U.S. asylum days before Santiago was killed, testified before U.S. Congress that he was threatened by a Chihuahua state official.
Television cameraman Alejandro Hernandez also is seeking U.S. asylum after being kidnapped in July, presumably by the Sinaloa drug cartel. His lawyer says he fears both the cartels and the government.
But Mexican journalists also shoulder some blame.
Though press independence has increased in Mexico, corruption reigns, particularly in smaller media markets. Salaries are low, leaving reporters vulnerable to bribes. Government advertising remains a major source of funding — influence — for many publications.
"Criminals routinely bribe them to act as cartel publicists or to buy their silence," according to the CPJ report.
But that, too, could be changing, said Carlo Lugos Galera, a political science professor at Mexico's Iberoamerican University.
"The editorial is a wake-up call to society to be more demanding of the media ... more demanding for reliable information," he said.

Our own media has set off down this same path. More and more frequently we see journalistic integrity compromised for some reason - bribe money? Ideological view? Fear? Intimidation? I don't know, but when the media is unable, or unwilling, to share the truth, or worse, complicit in hiding the truth, the people feel more and more disenfranchised and less and less trustful of the government. As that trust grows, the government loses more and more control of the country and has to set more and more stringent regulations and pass increasingly intrusive and controlling laws. The more that happens the more disillusioned the citizenry becomes, and distrust of the government increases. It's a vicious circle that will eventually lead to an overthrow of the government. How long before that happens in Mexico? And if it can happen there, how long before it happens here? Well that depends largely pepends upon the results of the November elections...

WTC Update - This Is Rather Interesting...
The implications of the discovery of unspent aluminothermic explosives and matching residues in World Trade Center dust are staggering. There is no conceivable reason for there to have been tons of high explosives in the Towers except to demolish them, and demolition is blatantly incompatible with the official 9/11 narrative that the skyscrapers collapsed as a result of the jetliner impacts and fires.
The discovery of active thermitic materials adds to a vast body of evidence that the total destruction of the Towers were controlled demolitions, and to the subset of that evidence indicating the use of aluminothermic materials to implement those demolitions.
The article, which you can access here, is pretty well articulated. Even before reading this, in fact when it happened, I remember wondering how a building that big could just crumble. Subconsciously I recognized the implosion as very much like a demolition. Now I know why. Could it be that the destruction of the buildings - including WTC 7 - were ensured through redundant "systems" of destruction? I don't profess to know what it all means at this point, but it is interesting...

Consider this:
1. President Barack Obama, former editor of the Harvard Law Review, is no longer a "lawyer". He surrendered his license back in 2008 in order to escape charges he lied on his bar application.
A "Voluntary Surrender" is not something where you decide "Gee, a license is not really something I need anymore, is it?" and forget to renew your license. No, a "Voluntary Surrender" is something you do when you've been accused of something, and you 'voluntarily surrender" your license five seconds before the state suspends you.
2. Michelle Obama "voluntarily surrendered" her law license in 1993.
3. So, we have the first black President and First Lady - who don't actually have licenses to practice law. Facts.

4. A senior lecturer is one thing. A fully ranked law professor is another. Barack Obama was NOT a Constitutional Law professor at the University of Chicago .
5. The University of Chicago released a statement in March, 2008 saying Sen. Barack Obama (D-Ill.) "served as a professor" in the law school - but that is a title Obama, who taught courses there part-time, never held, a spokesman for the school confirmed in 2008.
6. "He did not hold the title of professor of law," said Marsha Ferziger Nagorsky, an Assistant Dean for Communications and Lecturer in Law at the University of Chicago School of Law.

11. And this is the same guy who lectured the Supreme Court moments later in the same speech???
When you are a phony it's hard to keep facts straight. The only ones that haven't seen through this clown and the band of idiots that surrounds him are those that are fleecing this Country for all it's worth. I hope and pray that common sense will prevail in the next election or this great Nation is finished!

The Nightmare That Now Confronts Us
On How Many Fronts Do We Need To Fight?
I was responding to a post on a blog that I was reading earlier. The topic was about our current fight with radical Islamists, which actually began in 1979. You can read that post here if you'd like. But I got to thinking about the plan radical Islamists might be cooking up, and this is what I came up with - a plan that would dwarf the 9/11 attack. Now before you go scoffing at it, think back 10 years. Who would have thought anyone would fly planes into the twin towers...
So here's the sad story of what might happen next time around. For the past 10 years we have closed our eyes to the fact that tens, perhaps hundreds, of thousands of Islamists have come into our country - legally and otherwise. Hundreds of thousands more will come in over the next decade. We have allowed thousands of mosques to be built, and thousands more will be built in the years ahead. We have allowed Islamist "compounds" to be built - gated and off limits even to American law enforcement personnel. We are tolerating Muslim culture, and with it the slow encroachment of Sharia Law, which in the not too distant future, will be "acceptable" in the Muslim communities in America. We are allowing "Muslim" influence to be taught to our school kids (see my earlier post). Once the Islamists have all their ducks in a row, they will strike again, another attack, this time much grater in scope than the 9/11 attacks. Because simultaneously the Muslim population that over two decades will have quietly infiltrated our country (and who we are willingly allowing (and will continue to allow) to cultivate and spread their culture, a population which will have increased dramatically along with Muslim influence, and their knowledge of any law enforcement and emergency responses we might have) will fall back upon their religion, cry "ALLAH", and join their brethren who initiated the attack on us. We, being the fat, dumb and happy morons that we are as a country, will have no clue as to how to organize a counter attack of the magnitude required to quell the uprising, nor, in many cases, even know how to defend ourselves. The chaos will be enormous as scenes of terror never before seen in America confront us. And when the dust finally settles - however many days, weeks or months that battle will take - that will be the real end of America. Far-fetched? We would have said the same thing 10 years ago if someone suggested that planes would have been flown into the twin towers!
So while we contemplate the destruction wrought by obama and his administration, another plan to destroy America, one even more devastating than obama's treachery, is happening right in front of us. And most of us don't even see it gathering. Perhaps obama, even with his Muslim ties and his Muslim experiences and his fondness for all things Muslim, isn't a part of this grand plan. But is it possible that everything that obama is doing is just a ruse to allow time for Muslims, the people he really identifies with, to get their ducks in a row? Let's see, he was a Constitutional Professor - he knows his agenda will not fly for long. Much of what he is doing will be rejected by the populace; what's not rejected outright will be repealed. But while all of America is energized and focused on that battle - regardless of which side you're on - could it be that he has willingly and knowingly opened the door for the real destruction of America?
I'm just thinking...
